About The Workshop
Mud pies are a natural and memorable part of every childhood. It’s a simple activity that is packed full of learning concepts including, viscosity, density, volume and capacity while at the same time providing so much for the child who craves sensory experiences. Setting up a mud kitchen provides dramatic opportunities to enhance social and language skills. Explore with us how to set up even the simplest mud kitchen in any playground that will provide creative and meaningful experiences that are long lasting.
Learning Outcomes
- Understanding the research behind ‘why dirt is good’ for a healthy immune system.
- Constructing a stable and creative mud kitchen that will engage your target age group in a purposeful way. In groups, we will explore and experiment with the various items needed to construct effective mud kitchens.
- Recognizing the developmental outcomes of making a mud kitchen; sensory input, science, math, language, fine motor, and social skills all play a role.
- Purposeful play! Participants will make their own mud creations and experience why playing in the mud is just plain fun!
