Rosalind Blauer Centre For Child Care
St. Catharines, Ontario
Overview:
At the child care centre on Brock University’s campus, these two spaces have transformed learning and play.
Designer Notes: This child care center on the Brock University campus features a large slope, which made accessibility a (fun) challenge. The children and the educators love the Whoville houses. Both areas have interesting log borders and sand areas. The planting design was exciting, as we got to work with an existing black walnut tree and we were able to incorporate plant material from the Carolinian zone.
Educator Notes: This toddler playground is packed full of goodies: the Whoville house, a carved tunnel, musical instruments, a hill slide, sand area and water stump. My favourite is the grassy hill with a single slide. I love how the slide inserts perfectly into the side of the grassy hill and provides nice opportunities for climbing up and running down the hill.
