Pelican Ponds Open Space Park
Thornton, Colorado
Overview:
Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds worked with the teams at Adam’s County and Urban Drainage & Flood Control District to add a natural playground to the Pelican Ponds Open Space naturalized park.
This was the second project that Bienenstock was hand selected by the-Mile-High Flood District to create a natural play space in the Denver area. Located in north Denver this Adam’s County site is an open space project that brought together a natural landscape that uses existing topography to create ecological restoration and play into one.
Working with the Adam’s County staff and listening to the desires of the community we designed a natural playground that has climbing features, swings, natural playground equipment and accessible tactile play that engages all senses and abilities. This project has become a showcase for the county and continues to evolve as the forestry staff continues to expand the natural play features beyond the original scope as materials and funds become available.
