Overview:
Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds partnered with Holy Name of Jesus and the Hamilton- Wentworth Catholic Child Care Centres (HWCCCC) to transform a once-paved outdoor play area into a sensory-rich, nature based environment. What was once a barren asphalt pad is now a dynamic space that fosters child development and imaginative play through natural elements and thoughtful playground design.
The new play space features a robust log tree fort, early learning pods with plantings, and chalkboard panels that encourage contemplative and creative engagement.
Log tunnels, clusters, and borders provide opportunities for both gross and fine motor play, while the natural flora and organic surfaces offer loose parts for children to explore throughout the seasons. This environment supports unstructured, child-led play where imaginations can flourish, promoting creativity and innovation.
The outdoor play area at Holy Name of Jesus is a vibrant example of how natural playgrounds can enhance learning and engagement. To learn more about the impact of this project, visit our website for a spotlight on the staff’s experience and how children interact with their new space.
