Genesis Early Learning
Edmonton, Alberta
Overview:
A training centre for early childhood educators in Edmonton, AB that served as one of the first natural playgrounds in the Edmonton area.
Training centre for Early Childhood Educators in Edmonton and first example of a natural playground. Bienenstock collaborated with Kathy Globle on the design and the playground was installed by our team. First long distant project built by us. A real example of why the borders and transitions are as important as the elements themselves. this was a repurposed legacy school property that recognized their playground needed to be a community park and chose not to build fences for containment but instead created a permeable planted border which allowed people in but still defined the space well enough for kids to feel safe and embraced.
The sand area is awesome! It’s a good size and always packed with kids. It has vertical stumps and boulders border that has many purposes: it keeps the sand in, acts as a table top for sand creations, can be an obstacle course and allows a place for teachers to sit and engage with the children.
