Dundas Central Elementary School

Dundas Central Elementary School

Dundas, Ontario

Overview:

Dundas Central and Bienenstock have been working together for 10+ years to rethink the way local school boards consider nature play and stormwater management.

This project has been a 10 year odyssey to challenge the way local school boards think about the learning environment outside the walls of our local schools. From early on, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation (TDFEF) has partnered with Bienenstock to assist in the transformation and create an iconic schoolyard and community gathering space. The site features an ancient, 100 year old, 17,000 lbs, 8’ wide silver maple trunk (donated by City of Hamilton Forestry), an amphitheater, a wetland teaching garden and significant succession planting to replace the dying Ash canopy.
