Children & Nature Network - Nature Everywhere Conference

The Nature Everywhere Conference, formerly known as the Inside-Out International Conference, is organized by the Children & Nature Network, bringing together leaders from various sectors worldwide. The conference aims to create equitable access to nature and advocates for the importance of children connecting with the natural world.

Unraveling the Mystery of Outdoor Loose Parts and Tools

Note: Meet near the conference registration/help desk at 12:15pm to depart for this offsite breakout session**

In this session, Jill Bienenstock (RECE), will streamline loose parts and tools that can be used outdoors for the early years. The goal is to add loose parts that promote big-body play while supporting problem-solving both physically and socially. We will add to what you have and simplify your outdoor programming to create child-led and inclusive experiences where all learning styles and personalities shine through.

Participants will be guided through a hands-on experience with loose parts and tools appropriate for the early years followed by a Q&A session.

Let them play! How to bring the benefits of natural playgrounds and unstructured nature play to children in your community

The event will bring together 600+ cross-sector leaders from around the world, including our own Adam Bienenstock, to advance programs, practices and policies for advancing equitable access to nature everywhere children live, learn and play.

For a 60 minutes moderated panel followed by audience Q&A

This signature breakout session will focus on the importance of unstructured nature play, or risky play, for children’s healthy development — and offer real-world strategies for developing nature play spaces and playgrounds, including design considerations, certification, risk management and more. The session will feature a moderated panel of international experts,

Green Schoolyards Design Workshop for Early Childhood Educators

Note: Meet near the conference registration/help desk at 2:15pm to depart for this offsite breakout session**

Participants will be coached to create their own scale-model natural outdoor learning environment designs out of sand and mini components. We will start off the design by using 5 basic elements; changing topography, creating pathways, adding boulders, logs and large trees. Next, outdoor classoom/natural playground components will be included in their designs to create areas that include art/creative play, dramatic play, science concepts, and areas that enhance social skills, collaboration and curriculum delivery.

Participants will get a chance to present their models to the group while providing constructive feedback that will support the design principals, safety standards and educational objectives presented earlier. Affordable ways to achieve these goals will be presented throughout. Specific attention will be paid to CPTED, ADA, ASTM and CPSC Compliance. Operations and Maintenance for long term sustainability and leveraging of current capacities will all be addressed as part of this modeling session.
